Women Buckin’ Thru Time…

… Today the “Buffalo Gals” competed in the 1st day of the Cody Wyoming Stampede Rodeo Independence Day parades.  The theme is “Wyoming – Buckin’ Thru Time”.  We were aiming to make a “Women’s Timeline”, with each ensemble representing an era.

As a SPECIAL SURPRISE – the boys from the “Rocky Mountain Frontier Ranch” brought the “Yan” to our “Yin” and pulled the wagons for The Gals who had trains or restricted movement. They are featured today as a break in so much female costume on this blog, and are showing off our new feather flag.

It was a great introduction to the community of our upcoming walking tours of the historic downtown, and many of our merchant sponsors yelled out “hallo’s” as we passed by.  Below are shots waiting in anticipation and of the people behind the scenes.  We look a bit like the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” album, don’t you think?

Hopefully we’ll have a prize banner to show tomorrow…?!

Waiting in the mountain sun. We didn’t melt, but the pioneers had to put their bonnets on!
At the end we all hitched a ride in the wagon with an authentic covered wagon wheel to hang on to.
This was Rachel’s performance debut, borrowing Kristi’s ensemble as Kristi had to work.
Our driver, Tony, was challenged by the parade marshalls on horseback to keep up with the “Wells Fargo Wagon”, while not leaving those of us walking in antique footwear behind in the dust.. or road apples of which there were many
Normally the 3 of these perform next to each other, but Chris is wearing Ellie’s ensemble. They still insisted that they must stick together, but alas, Chris (as 1910) had to go to the back of the line…
Jacinta and Tiss were chauffered by the Rocky Mountain boys in wagons borrowed from the local tree nursery.
Before the parade, Tony made a video of the Gals describing their characters. Look for new technology (videos!) on here soon!
That’s me, your writer. Bet you can never guess which year my ensemble depicts… gorgeous signs that double as fans in the heat were made by Sary, Tiss, and their brother (who might have been coerced)
Here’s our Abbey Road simulation. We held that line and spacing pretty well in spite of the Arapaho warriors whooping and riding just on our tails.
