Pauline (“Paulette”) called herself “Princess”..

.. of Saint Domingue.  She reigned like an empress, and built a menagerie (zoo) and collected plants for fun.

When her husband died of yellow fever in 1802, she returned to France to live with her brother Joseph.  She brought Leclerc’s body in a sarcophagus, and local rumor had it that she had stolen gold and jewels from Saint Domingue and hidden it with the body.  She did not, which was proven so as she had to live on a strict fund and with her brother.
