Josephine, step-daughter of Napoleon 1st, Queen of Sweden…

.. was a patron of painters, and was part of the political struggles in Norway and Sweden regarding Catholicism vs Protestantism.  Because Sweden fought against France, the “Napoleonine” part of her name was removed forever.

When her husband, King Oscar died in 1858, she became the Dowager Queen, and no longer could participate in politics, so she spent her years as a patron of the arts and sciences.
