Henry, Queen Victoria’s son in law, wanted to help the English military..

He “escaped” life in the palace often to participate in English campaigns, but Beatrice, Henry’s wife and Victoria wanted to keep him closer to home.

Prince Henry on one such excursion in the Anglo-Asante War, never returned.  He died of malaria, sending Beatrice into deep mourning.
