Beatriz, great granddaughter of Queen Victoria was married wearing a 20′ train…

… in the winter of 1935.  She had a coronet of orange blossoms, long considered a symbol of virtue and fertility, which held her veil in place.  Her father Alfonso came together for the occasion, and the King and Queen of Italy with 52 princes of blood royal in attendance.

Thousands of Spaniards traveled from Spain to support the royal family, making it a political event.  Neither Queen Ena nor Beatriz’s eldest brother Alfonso who was heir to the Spanish throne, who were on bad terms with the King attended.  Pope Pius XI received the newlyweds.
