As we are telling Lillie’s story, pay attention to what she is..

… wearing.  We’ll talk about Alix, the tolerant wife of King Edward (while he was having an affair with Lillie) and her fashion influence as 1900 approached – and – will tie in the fashion features Lillie was introducing in a few days.

Here’s a “test” for you who have just studied the Natural Form Era with us:

This is a photo of Lillie Langtry in 1881 just before her New York debut.  Even though this is a stage ensemble, can you recognize the features coming out of the last fashion era? (Hint: look at seams of the bodice – do they run the full length?  If so, it’s Princess seaming.  Is the fullness in the back made by a structure or by draping or by something in between.  This looks like somewhere in between indicating BEFORE 1881 even though historians have dated it as such.  It looks almost 1876 to us. The deciding factor must be the hair…)

And: whom do you guess “Princess Seaming” might be named after and why?  (Answers soon!)
