Joseph had 3 women who gave him only daughters…

… 2 by his wife Julie Clary, 2 by Annette Savage “Madame de la Folie”, and 2 by Maria Giula, Countess of Atri.

Guila was born in 1806, and Teresa in 1808 by Maria Giula, while he was in Rome, and at about the same time as his legitimate children.

Annette’s daughter Pauline died as a young woman without heirs, but their daughter Catherine Charlotte ended up in Jefferson County, New York with two sons by Colonel Zebulon Howell Benton, who carried on the Bonaparte bloodline in America.

(portrait: Pauline Savage, illegitimate daughter of Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon’s brother, who might have died shortly after this portrait, or it could have been painted posthumously, as it shows an 1805 gown which would have been about the time of her birth, and not her teen years)
